    Position Overview

    As a Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining a variety of occupational health and safety programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees. The position will require walking through facilities, standing while conducting training sessions and shift change meetings. The position can sit while doing office work, part of meetings, or conducting investigation interviews.

    Responsibilities

    • Implement and maintains the Safety Program, safety files, procedures,
    • programs, and records in compliance with regulatory agencies requirements.
    • Compiles and submits reports to Federal and State regulatory agencies to maintain safety compliance.
    • Collects, analyzes and maintains data essential for effective safety and environmental programs, including OSHA and EPA filings, as well as other reports for outside agencies, as may be required.
    • Performs or assists with accident investigations as needed. Recommend necessary corrective action to prevent future incidents.
    • Designs, develops and conducts safety training programs.
    • Evaluates hazardous conditions and recommends engineering controls, administrative controls, and/or personal protective equipment.
    • Carry out assigned projects to their completion with minimal supervision. 
    • Work independently with a multitude of tasks.
    • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form.
    • Establish and maintain professional and effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, and external entities.
    • Build consensus and influence a diverse group of associates in safe behaviors and practices.
    • Maintain and ensure the confidential nature of information.
    • Work nights and some weekends.
    • Participates in problem solving activities.

    Qualifications

    • Associate Degree in safety management or related field preferred; or equivalent of 1 to 3 years experience in progressively responsible safety position within manufacturing/warehouse environment.
    • Full command of the use of Word, Excel, Power Point, and email.
    • Experience with process/equipment hazard risk-analysis tools.
    • Experience with Behavioral Safety Process a plus.
    • Experience with OSHA standards Powered Industrial Truck.
    • Experience in Manual Material Handling and Ergonomics.
    • Ability to stand/walk for long periods of time
